First recycling centre of its kind in the UK set to open in Llantrisant later this year

A new community recycling centre, which will be a first of its kind in the UK, is to open in Llantrisant.

Set to open at the end of summer, the Rhondda Cynon Taf Council operated 100% recycling facility is being delivered as part of the council’s continued drive to increase recycling rates in the county borough.

Unlike other community recycling centres in the area, the new facility will only accept material that can be recycled.

Designed by a specialist firm which has delivered similar facilities across Europe, where recycling rates are as high as 65 per cent (Germany) the bespoke recycling centre allows visitors to drive over the containers in their vehicles and drop recyclable material into the relevant area.

The facility was visited by Council Leader Coun Andrew Morgan and Carl Sargeant AM, Minister for Natural Resources. They were given a tour of the site to see for themselves how the one-of-a-kind facility would work.

The aim is that the bespoke design will make it easier and more convenient for residents to sort and dispose of recyclable items.
